Last night Latin Rhythmz played the music at Keysters in Urbandale, for a smashing party to celebrate the birthday of one Ruben Zamudio III, owner and dance instructor of Salsa Iowa. There was a huge turnout, there was a terrific food spread with authentic Mexican food, a chocolate fountain and tons of delicious cheesecake which Ruben himself made.

DJ Henry was spinning the tunes and I stopped by for a little bit to wish Ruben a Happy Bday and take some pics. I stopped by at 10pm and the place was packed, the music was great, the dance floor was full. It was pretty awesome! Click here for some pics or check out our complete gallery by clicking here.

So this morning, on the way to work, I was listening to my iPod and came across a couple of old classics. Well, old for me, because I am not old

I miss the classics stuff from the eighties and early nineties. Anyway, I heard “Esa Mujer” by Tony Vega (one of my favorites) and “Brujeria” by Gran Combo. Not exactly contemporaries of each other, but that is what is terrific about Salsa…the fact that it is timeless. Salsa is like wine, it gets better with age. Ok, so I’ve heard a couple of pretty good tracks from Zion, but what happened to Lennox. Anyone know what’s going on here? I’ve been a little out of the Reggaeton loop, but oh well… So far I’ve heard “Alocate” which is pretty darn good and “Fantasma” which is decent. Wissin y Yandel stick kick everyone’s butt anyway… Oh but Salsa is still king

Well, I’ve been pretty sick for like the last week and a half, but I am hoping to be all better in the next 24 hours or so because my Little Nina is turning three and we are taking her on her first bowling experience. So no dances this Saturday…It’s my baby’s birthday!!
