Song of the Day – “No Vale La Pena” by Isaac Delgado

Posted by Sergio on September 24th, 2009

I have to admit that I have only heard a couple of songs from this Puerto Rican artist, but Isaac Delgado got it right with this one! He has smooth Victor Manuelle-like vocals and the music is outstanding. I’ll let you take a listen and judge for yourself. The following is NOT the original video, but rather just a few pics over the track.

The song has kind of a slow, piano solo beginning and then goes into a soft vocal intro. Once you get into the chorus, however, you will be singing and moving your feet for sure.

Song of the Day – “Ven Tu” by Domenic Marte

Posted by Sergio on September 18th, 2009

Today’s song is a bachata by Domenic Marte, a.k.a Domenic M or D Marte. It starts off with a really cool track of a sort of Middle Eastern sounding voice in a typical type of chant with a classical acoustic guitar and bongos in the background. Domenic has more of soulful almost R&B type of voice, not typical of this genre, but does a really nice job with the vocals. This is a very popular song at Latin dances and a favorite for couples :)

Hope you like it… here is “Ven Tu”

Song of the Day – ‘I’ll Always Love You’ by Tito Nieves

Posted by Sergio on September 14th, 2009

Today’s oldie but super goodie is one of my favorites by “El Pavarotti de La Salsa”, Tito Nieves. You’ll have to pardon the corny, sappy video, but this is a true classic. A couple of friends of mine used this song as their first dance at their wedding. Another couple really made this song memorable for me though… Jorge and Melissa, if you’re reading this, I loved watching you guys dance this.

Tito remakes this song and gave it a style all his own… this guy has some chops! Most songs, especially salsa, fit into either the “great to listen to” or “great to dance to” category… this one fits well in both! Here…check it out yourself and feel free to dedicate it to the one you love…

Artist Profile – Grupo Niche

Posted by Sergio on September 10th, 2009

Grupo Niche, formed in 1978 in Bogota Colombia, has been probably my favorite Salsa group ever. The group’s director and songwriter, Jairo Varela started the band along with Alexis Lozano, who ironically enough, is the leader of the other group I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, as being Niche’s top competition at the time, Orquesta Guayacan (I really like this band too and will write about them soon).

Grupo Niche’s first album, “Al Pasito” was released in 1980 to lukewarm reviews and radio play. Especially since at the time, the hot band was the spectacular Fruko Y Sus Tesos (a descendant of the awesome Latin Brothers). In 1984 they released their fourth album, “No Hay Quinto Malo” which contained what is now their most well known, salsa-cult-following “Cali Pachanguero”. That’s when Niche really came on the salsa scene.

Since then, this quintessentially “estilo Colombiano” band has released some super smash hits, many of which have become staples in clubs all over Colombia, The United States and the world. As far as I am concerned, you can’t have a dance, or as the Colombians would say “una rumba” without Grupo Niche in your repertoire.

Today’s featured song is “Ana Mile”
