Latin Rhythmz is a DJ service that was started in 1990 in Queens, New York City, hometown of Sergio Correa, founder and owner of the company. It all started as a hobby for Sergio, in which he began collecting cassette tapes. Very quickly, he had enough tapes that his friends and family began to call him to make sure he would bring his modest collection to parties and family events. It wasn’t long before friends of friends began to commission Sergio for their events.
Sergio became “the life of the party” because of his fun personality and of course his love for music. These were the traits that would develop Sergio and Latin Rhythmz into a top-notch provider of great music and fun times.
Through the years, Latin Rhythmz has been featured at many events in New York and since 1995, in Des Moines and Central Iowa. Of course, since then times and technology have changed. The Latin genre has introduced new styles, such as Bachata into the mainstream and more recently, Reggaeton. Media has gone from cassettes and 12-inch vinyl to compact discs to mp3 and other computer based music file formats. Through it all, Sergio has maintained a professional, new technology approach, while maintaining the original flavor of the “old school” and “knack” for playing the right song at the right time.
Latin Rhythmz has also focused on bringing new talent on-board to ensure their sound is always fresh and pleasing to the ever-widening range of musical tastes. Believe us when we tell you that since 1995 when Latin Rhythmz was introduced in Iowa, the thirst for Salsa and other genres of Latin music has increased tremendously. A few years ago, Henry was brought on to the team with a specialty in old school and “Salsa Romantica” or Romantic Salsa. Artists in this arena include Eddie Santiago, Lalo Rodriguez, the late great Frankie Ruiz, Luis Enrique and other classics.
More recently, we introduced on to the Latin Rhythmz team, DJ Jorge or as we like to call him ‘Lil Jorgie. With his youth, Jorge brings to the team his taste for and knowledge of the newer Reggaeton genre. Reggaeton is a contemporary mix of reggae with a Latin twist. Artists include the hugely popular Daddy Yankee, “La Diva” Ivy Queen, Wissin & Yandel and others.
Today, Latin Rhythmz has become a premier disc jockey service for Iowa and the surrounding states. We have grown to service many different genres of music including, Dance, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Mainstream, to the older 70’s and 80’s music. At the same time, we continue to excel in the Latin style of music and have enjoyed great success both for the team and for our customers.
